چکیده

LASER in the otology field was used to perform tympanotomy and for the placement of ventilation tubes, vaporization of horny pearls and adhesion in the eardrum, remobilisations and ossicular modelings, “spot-welding”; in this field the most argued area of applicability of LASER is the surgery of the otosclerosis. The otosclerosis treatment with surgical LASER started with Perkins and Di Bartolomeo in 1980 using Argon LASER; afterwards were used also other sort of LASER: CO2, KTP. Laser benefits in the surgical therapy of otosclerosis are the bleeding control and the limitation of the handling of the platina reducing the risk of “floating platina” and acoustic vibratory trauma. These advantages allow to optimize the functional result and to reduce risks of cochlear damage connected with surgical treatment. The ideal property of tissue interaction of the laser radiation in the otosclerosis surgery is the laser’s energy absorption of the platina, that allows the vaporization and avoids the perilymph thermal dispersion. The modality of supply of the pulsate energy enables the tissue cooling between the pauses and reduces the risk of thermal damage of the surrounding structures. The argon laser is used for vaporize the stapedius tendon, the posterior crus of the stapes, as Acta Medica Mediterranea, 2011, 27: 79

Improving Blue InGaN Laser Diodes Performance with Waveguide Structure Engineering

To enhance lasers’ power and improve their performance, a model wasapplied for the waveguide design of 400 nm InGaN/InGaN semiconductor laser, whichis much easier to implement. The conventional and new laser structures weretheoretically investigated using simulation software PICS3D, which self-consistentlycombines 3D simulation of carrier transport, self-heating, and opt...

Using laser diodes for the removal of a lesion of the oral mucosa. Case report.

AIM.: Describe a clinical case of a voluminous asymptomatic fibromatosis lesion present on the cheek mucosa and evaluate the healing of the site after removal of the lesion with use of the laser diode. METHODS.: It was decided to use laser diodes to affect the mucous membrane and remove the lesion without the use of local anesthetic infiltration. The protocol used includes a 300-micron fiber a...

The advantage of using a diode laser instead of a Q-switched laser in photoacoustic imaging of tissues

Photoacoustic (PA) imaging of biological tissues using laser diodes instead of conventional Q switched pulsed systems provides an attractive alternative for biomedical applications. However, the relatively low energy of laser diodes operating in the pulsed regime, results in generation of very weak acoustic waves, and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the detected signals. This problem can be ...

Chondroradionecrosis of the Larynx in a Patient with Laryngeal: A Case Report

Introduction: Actinomycosis of the larynx has been rarely reported in the literature and usually occurs in patients with a history of laryngeal carcinoma and radiation therapy. However, its co-existence with chondroradionecrosis due to radiotherapy is even rarer. The most common site of infection is the cervicofacial region, especially in the submandibular area.   Case Report: Here we report a ...

Feasibility Assessment of Optical Coherence Tomography-Guided Laser Labeling in Middle Cranial Fossa Approach

Introduction: Different approaches have been developed to find the position of the internal auditory canal (IAC)in middle cranial fossa approach. A feasibility study was performed to investigate the combination of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and laser ablation to assist a surgeon in a middle cranial fossa approach by outlining the internal auditory ...
